Considered by many to be a sideline industry, the economic impact of the non-profit is beginning to be recognized as a mainstream contributor to the national economy. In 1999, Statistics Canada measured the value of the non-profit sector at 6.9% of the standard gross domestic product (GDP). This economic measure positions the non-profit sector as being more valuable to the national economy than motor vehicle manufacturing, agriculture, mining, oil and gas extraction, and the retail trade industry. Business never flows quite the way I plan it. It is not a case of poor planning, goals not set, or actions not followed through on.
